What this policy covers
Egbenn Accountancy is a trading name of Egbenn Limited, company number 11968982, an ACCA registered practice working with owner-managed limited companies across Hertfordshire and London. This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on egbenn.co.uk, what each one does, how long it lasts and who sets it. Read it alongside the Privacy Policy, which covers everything else Egbenn does with personal data. The policy follows the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, the UK GDPR, and the ICO’s guidance on cookie consent.
What cookies actually are
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store on your computer, tablet or phone. They hold short pieces of information, such as whether you have already made a cookie choice, or an anonymous identifier that counts your visit. First-party cookies are set by egbenn.co.uk itself. Third-party cookies are set by other services the site uses, such as a form embed or an analytics tool, and those companies can recognise their own cookies across the sites that use them. Session cookies disappear when you close the browser. Persistent cookies stay until they expire or you delete them.
How consent works here
Under UK rules, only the cookies the site cannot run without are set automatically. Everything else waits until you say yes.
When you arrive, a banner asks what you are happy for the site to set. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary cookies runs until you choose. Consent is given per category, so you can accept one kind and refuse another, and you can change your mind later without losing access to anything on the site. Closing the banner or carrying on reading is not consent.
Strictly necessary cookies: no consent needed
A few cookies keep the site working: holding your session while you move between pages or fill in the quiz, protecting forms against automated misuse, and remembering the cookie choice you have already made. These are set automatically because the site cannot run properly without them.
Everything else: consent first
Functional, analytics and marketing cookies are set only after you have chosen them on the banner. No boxes are ticked for you, and refusing them does not change what you can read or do anywhere on this site.
Changing your mind
Use the manage cookies link in the footer to reopen the banner and switch any category off or on. You can also clear cookies in your browser, which removes the stored choice and brings the banner back on your next visit.
The cookies this site uses
Four categories, and what each one is for.
| Category | Purpose | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary cookies | These keep the basics working. They hold a session while you move between pages or complete the quiz, help protect forms from automated abuse, and store the cookie preference you set so you are not asked again on every page. Without them, parts of the site stop working. | No consent required. These are essential for the site to work. |
| Functional cookies | These remember choices you have made, such as settings on a form you started or how something is displayed, so the site behaves the way you left it. Useful, though the site works without them, so they are set only if you choose that category. | Set only with your consent. Withdraw at any time through manage cookies. |
| Analytics cookies | These count visits and show which pages people read, how long they stay and which links they follow, so Egbenn can see what is useful and what is not. They are non-essential under UK rules and are set only if you choose the analytics category on the banner. | Set only with your consent. The site works exactly the same if you decline. |
| Marketing cookies | These would follow visits across different websites to target advertising and measure how adverts perform. Egbenn does not currently set marketing or advertising cookies on this site. If that changes, the policy will be updated and your consent asked for before any such cookie is set. | We don’t currently use marketing cookies. If this changes, we’ll update this policy and request your consent. |
Cookies set by other companies
Some cookies on this site are set by other companies rather than by Egbenn. The enquiry and quiz form embed is the main one, and any analytics tool added later would be another. Those companies set and read their own cookies under their own privacy policies, and Egbenn sees only the reports they provide. Turning a category off in the banner stops those cookies being set here. It does not affect the same company’s cookies on other websites, which you would need to manage separately in your browser.
Managing cookies on this site
Two ways to control what gets set.
You can control cookies through the banner on this site, which covers egbenn.co.uk only, or through your browser settings, which cover every site you visit. Both are free and take about a minute.
Through this website
The banner appears on your first visit, and the manage cookies link in the footer reopens it whenever you want. From there you can see which categories are active, turn analytics or functional cookies on or off, and save the change. Your new choice applies straight away.
Through your browser
Browser settings apply to every site you visit, not just this one. In Chrome, go to Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies. In Firefox, Settings, then Privacy and Security. In Safari, Settings or Preferences, then Privacy. In Edge, Settings, then Cookies and site permissions.
What blocking does
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of the site working properly, including the forms and the quiz. Blocking analytics or functional cookies changes nothing you can see: every page still loads and every form still works.
Technologies similar to cookies
Cookies are not the only way a website stores or collects information. Local storage and session storage in your browser do a similar job, pixel tags in pages or emails record that something was opened, and the web host keeps server logs of requests, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. Where any of these do the work of a non-essential cookie, Egbenn treats them the same way and asks for your consent first.
Children and this site
This website is aimed at people running businesses, not at children. Egbenn does not knowingly set cookies to collect information about anyone under 18. If you believe a child’s information has been collected through this site, email info@egbenn.co.uk and it will be deleted.
Changes to this policy
This policy is reviewed as the site changes, and the last reviewed date above is updated each time. If a new cookie category or a new third-party service is added, the banner will ask for your consent again before anything is set. Wording and tidying changes do not trigger a fresh request. The policy is checked with a legal adviser before publication.
